Fine animal portraits and other subjectsBased in the United Kingdom, Nigel Statham produces highly detailed pastel drawings to order. He specialises in animal studies which are based on photographs of the animals to be drawn and achieves a remarkable likeness of the subject. Nigel prefers to photograph the animal(s) himself, although he will accept existing photographs if the quality is sufficient. The following sequence of photographs illustrates how Nigel can transform a photograph into an exquisite pastel (Click on the thumbnail images to see larger versions):  
 
 For animal portraits, Nigel usually charges for each animal included in the picture. Picture sizes are usually a standard 16" x 20" (406mm x 508mm), although different sizes may be agreed if appropriate to the number of subjects in the picture. Although cats, dogs and horses are his speciality, Nigel will accept commissions for many subjects including, cherished vehicles, property, sporting portraits, in fact - you name it - he will draw it! Whether the subject is a favourite pet, a family portrait, or a favourite car or house, the final result would make an ideal Christmas or birthday gift. |

I was always interested in art as a boy, but was particularly inspired by the artist Tony Hart from the TV program Vision On. I lived in Ireland with my parents on a smallholding for a while. It is there that I became interested in animals and would frequently sketch the goats and chickens. I found that I had a natural flair, and am completely self taught. I now specialise in animal portraits, although most other commissions are undertaken. My preferred media is pastel which I can use for subjects such as animals, classic cars, homes.
